Here’s my reasons for not using punishment when house training a dog.

Once the deed has been done, punishment is of no use at all. You know that your dog associates the punishment with what it is doing at that moment. It is also totally useless to rub its nose in it to make clear why you are angry. Rewarding good behavior and preventing accidents works better and faster and avoids countless problems in this area.

If you see your dog doing something wrong, pick the dog up and put it outside without saying anything. If it continues to “perform” outside, praise the dog lavishly.
